Encouraging environmental stewardship through applied learning.
Over the past 20 years, we have provided free educational opportunities to a variety of underserved groups with the goal of cultivating community stewardship. Our current education initiatives feature a hands-on approach to learning, allowing students to get out of the classroom and learn new skills. In spring of 2023, we worked with over 100 middle and high school students to clean up more than 600 lbs. of debris (litter, invasive species, etc.) in the Greater Cincinnati area.
Interested in getting involved? Our current offerings include a youth-focused environmental newsletter, urban forestry initiatives, student litter clean-ups, and pre-event information sessions for corporate sponsors. If you’re a student looking to host a clean-up, whether for service hours or just for fun, please fill out this form. If you’re a teacher or youth organization leader looking to host an event, please reach out to the Applied Learning Coordinator here.
What’s in our future?
We are currently developing a workforce development program with Cincinnati State where students can earn a college certificate while gaining hands-on experience in the sustainable horticulture field. Participating students will receive tuition reimbursements and a monthly stipend . This program is projected to begin in Fall of 2024, stay tuned! For more information about our workforce development initiatives, please reach out to the Environmental Education Manager here!
For K-8 resources, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful offers 19 environmental lessons focusing on topics like recycling, composting, litter's impact on wildlife, and more.
