Service learning provides a unique opportunity for students to learn and develop skills through thoughtfully organized experiences that meet community needs. In a nutshell, service learning programs offer an exciting, hands-on learning experience in which students apply what they learn in the classroom to real life with the intention of making their community a better place.
Growing Green Habits is our service learning opportunity for 3rd – 12th graders who want to serve as teachers and mentors to both their peers and the younger students at their school.
Students are trained how to present our “Recycle This” or the “Fred the Fish” program and receive all of the teaching materials necessary to present at a school. This is a great way for students to gain leadership and public speaking skills. The time commitment for training is 45 minutes, and it can be an in-classroom or after school activity. Contact us if you have an interested student or group!
We can also customize a service learning opportunity to fit your curriculum. For example, we can help older students partner with a nearby elementary school for a cleanup or planting event. We can also connect students with their local community council or other local organization to partner on a community project. This is a great way for high school students to complete their community service hours!
