Easy Tips to Make your Home as Green as Possible
by Matthew Heldman

I’ve had the privilege of living in Amberley Village all 13 years of my life and I want to keep it as beautiful and environmentally clean as possible. We all want to try to help the environment be clean and stay clean. Here are some things you can do while staying in your home and make a positive difference. A very easy thing we all should do is follow the 3 R’s: Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse.

RecycleRecycle – If you don’t have one already, call Rumpke Recycling at 1-800-582-3107 or email them at cincinnati.market@rumpke.com, and ask them for an 18 gallon Red Recycling Bin. Guess what? The bins are good during these hard economic times because they are FREE! If you have one and you feel like it is overflowing, this year, Amberley made a contract for the ability to purchase a 56 gallon Recycling Cart on wheels for a small fee.  All you need is that simple call and you are there. Rumpke accepts the majority of paper products, all plastic bottles (no lids), and glass bottles. A cool thing about Rumpke’s recycling program does that a lot of other garbage collecting companies in the country don’t do is that the customer doesn’t have to sort their items into groups: paper, plastic, and glass. Just throw all your items into your red bin, and they’ll take it from there.

itemsReduce – Try to reduce the amount of paper and plastic products you use by purchasing silverware instead of plastic ware and ceramic plates instead of paper ones. That way, we can reuse them.

Reuse – Use reusable products instead of disposable.  Instead of trashing disposable items, when you are finished with them, be creative and make it an art project and your kids can be involved. Teach them and yourself how to be green. Everyone will definitely have a blast!
