Future Blooms

Future Blooms is a grant project directed by Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and generously funded by the Empowerment Corporation, the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts and Fifth Third Bank Trustees. This blossoming inaugural project is a community beautification project, specifically aimed at the aesthetic enhancement of vacant, abandoned and foreclosed properties within the Empowerment Zone.

As a result of the deterioration that properties often endure during the foreclosure process they often become associated with crime and general unsightliness and act as a deterrent for prospective home buyers. Throughout the duration of the project our team, directed by Catherine Richards and working out of our Main Street studio will be resurfacing the boards installed on vacant properties with representations of new windows, doors and window boxes.

Our hope here at Future Blooms is that the reintegration of a visual language referencing the occupation of these properties will lend itself to positive shifts within the community including a reduction in crime surrounding these properties and a rise in area property value. With a minimum of 130 buildings to be completed by May of 2010 Keep Cincinnati Beautiful’s latest beautification effort and sure to make an undeniable impact."
