Recycling bins and safety kits distributed to Evanston residents

(CINCINNATI, OH) November 7th, 2008. Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, Cincinnati Police Department, Evanston Community Council and Xavier University students distributed 100 recycling bins and 1,000 Safety Kits home-by-home in Evanston during the past month.

Xavier University students decided to help out their neighbors through their ConneXions program. This program allows Freshman and Sophomore students to volunteer and learn from several local non-for-profit organizations, such as Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, for two hours every week. Several local groups made this recycling effort possible: Rumpke provided the recycling bins, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful put together safety kits including CFL light bulbs, Cincinnati Police Department helped with the logistics and Evanston Community Council distributed the bins permanently.

So far, the City of Cincinnati has more than doubled the amount of bins delivered compared to last year (5,400 vs. 2,200). Actions like this have resulted in an increased tonnage of recycled materials saving landfill space and decreasing the dollars that our city has to pay for the management of its trash.
