2009 Make a Difference Day October 24th

Make a Difference Day is one of the nation's largest days of citizen volunteerism. On October 24th Keep Cincinnati Beautiful did sponsor cleanup and beautification events throughout the city. Some communities had their events pushed back one week to October 31st due to weather concerns.

Last year 1,200 volunteers from 28 Greater Cincinnati communities clocked in 3,500 hours of work, collected 25,200 pounds of trash (including 152 tires, 15 mattresses, 2 stoves, 20 kitchen cabinets), planted 14,810 daffodil bulbs, 3,150 daylilies and spread 210 cubic yards of mulch during Keep Cincinnati Beautiful's Make A Difference Day.MaDD 2008

Highlights from last year's event:
  • Northside volunteers, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, UGiveCincinnati and High School students planted daffodils in a community garden, cleaned up an abandoned railroad right-a-way of litter and debris, cleaned up three gateways to the community as well as the main business corridor along Hamilton Avenue.
  • Delhi Township Civic Association volunteers planted 1,300 daffodil bulbs in Delhi Park and Five Point Park besides cleaning up several streets around them.
  • Cincinnati Park Board and UC Architecture students cleared and overgrown hillside, planted trees and bushes and mulched two former eye-sores at the intersection of Beechmont Ave and Route 32
  • Fifty College Hill volunteers planted flower bulbs at their local elementary school and library. They also cleaned up its business district and prepared planters for winter.
