WE NEED MENTORS!
For the Walnut Hills High School (WHHS) Environmental Mentorship Program
In Partnership with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful
Program: A third semester science project designed to expose students to environmental issues while encouraging environmental stewardship. Students are divided into groups to explore an environmental topic that includes: ENERGY, WATER, LAND and FOOD. Mentors are NOT environmental experts; but resources to share their expertise and guidance on group dynamics, research gathering and presentation skills.
Time Commitment: 1 hour per week/6 weeks
4 classroom project sessions, 1 dress rehearsal and 1 presentation day (1 hour/week). Meet with your student group during a class (a time period that meets your schedule) for consecutive weeks with a final presentation to follow which is judged by a collection of corporate, environmental and school officials. The final presentation will be held on the same time period as the work sessions.
3 environmental classes with time periods as follows:
OPTIONAL Thursday, January 11th (Mentors are welcome to attend if they want to hear the complete explanation of the project description and evaluation given to the students. Mentors will receive this project work packet prior to the first work session.)
GROUP WORK DAYS: Friday, January 12th, January 19th, January 26th, February 3rd, February 10th (REHEARSAL)
FINAL PRESENTATION: Friday, February 17th.
This is a great way for a corporate group to make a difference with this unique volunteer opportunity. Teens are fun to work with and truly appreciate your support and expertise!
A Mentor testimonial from 2017: The project inherently has so many benefits: exposure to mentors, research in relevant topics, and opportunities to communicate visually and verbally complex ideas. I hope it will continue. (Ryan from Human Nature)
